Reeve St Architect designed minimalist, modern home, Minimalist palette of white, black, stained timber, and terrazzo tiles, Traditional Character Area, traditional Queenslander style

Clayfield Modern House

The brief for this project was to design a minimalist, modern home within a Brisbane City Council Traditional Character Area that has strict rules regarding the external look of homes built in these zones.

These rules are designed to encourage new houses that look like traditional Queenslander style homes and discourage more contemporary styles. We were able to work within these rules while still achieving the desired outcome for our client.

Project features

  • Large, open plan living area fully open to the outdoors with large sliding doors retracting into a cavity to create a seamless transition to the backyard
  • Luxurious master suite with an ensuite and discrete view into the void and backyard beyond
  • Large, screened balcony off the rumpus room creating an open and airy feel to the space
  • 2 bedrooms with an interconnecting door to allow the children to share toys and play space with each other
  • Large, covered outdoor spaces for dining, cooking and lounging
  • Minimalist palette of white, black, stained timber, and terrazzo tiles
